Founded in 1922 in Atlanta, Georgia, on the principles that undergirded its fight for civil rights and against discrimination, bigotry, and hatred felt at the hands of the Ku Klux Klan, AHEPA is the largest and oldest grassroots association of American citizens of Greek heritage and Philhellenes with more than 400 chapters across the United States, Canada, and Europe.

DAUGHTERS OF PENELOPE
Sheila Moutopoulos, President

The Daughters of Penelope was the realization of Alexandra Apostolides' dream. Her desire was to create a woman's organization , she formed EOS Chapter#1 with 25 charter members on November 16, 1929 in San Francisco, California. She was elected the first Grand President of the organization in 1931.

The Albany Chapter, Alope #158 was started on April 27th, 1947 with 16 charter members who were initiated and installed as officers by our founding Father of our Chapter Nicholas Polydouris and District Governor Evelyn Mickles of Rochester, NY.

​

The objectives of the Daughters of Penelope are to promote Hellenism, Education, Philanthropy, Civic Responsibility, and Family & Individual Excellence. The Daughters of Penelope encourages and promotes loyalty to the country in which they live; cultivates the ideals and traditions of Hellenism; promotes opportunities of education; and promotes the spirit of cooperation.

"OPA-cize for Cause"

 

Weekly Greek dance exercise class, if you love Zumba, you'll love OPA-cize.  Dance to Greek music every Wednesday in the St Sophia Church Hall and feel like you're in Greece for an hour.

 

$7 per session and all proceeds donated to charity.

​

All are welcome no Greek dancing experience necessary.

​

SONS OF PERICLES

The Sons of Pericles is an international brotherhood dedicated to the preservation of Hellenism. In addition, the Order espouses philanthropy, civic responsibility, athletics, education and individual excellence.

​

As an international fraternity, the Sons of Pericles expands across the United States, Canada, and Greece. Our worldwide chapters form the base of our organization and strive to positively impact their local communities. The organization is divided by state(s) and province(s) into Districts. The Supreme Lodge is the international governing body of the Sons of Pericles and its primary purpose is to ensure the success and growth of the local chapters. Open to males 14-28, the Sons of Pericles is the Junior Order of AHEPA and has as its counterpart the Maids of Athena, open to women ages 14-28.

MAIDS OF ATHENA

The Maids of Athena is an international philanthropic and fraternal organization, and the junior auxiliary to the Daughters of Penelope for young women ages 14-28. Founded in 1930, our sisterhood quickly grew among young Greek women and today claims chapters across the US, Canada, and Greece. The Maids of Athena strive to achieve the ideals of Athena, as well as promote the Principles of our Order: Sisterhood, Service, Citizenship, Hellenism, Family and Arete.
